TRANSRURBAN Research Community

Presentation

transrurban

Background
The historical background of the TRANSRURBAN Research Community's research is in interdisciplinary rural, environmental and rural-urban studies.

During the last 15 years, research has been carried out in several independent institutes and departments (Ruralia Institute (RI), Swedish School of Social Sciences (SSKH), Aleksanteri Institute (CREES), Department of Social Research (DSR), Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry (FAF).

Focus is on rural issues, rural-urban and socio-ecological relationships.

Our practical motivation is to find the best ways to integrate previous efforts in the field and to find ways to move from short-term projects to long-term institutional solutions.

The objective for the research community’s collaboration is to move beyond the traditional rural and rural−urban−relationship –perspectives i.e. to study the challenging transformations connected to globalization, ecosystem changes and techno-scientific progress. The goal is to find ways to integrate research and doctoral training activities within this community.
