The Swedish School of Social Science (Soc&kom) is an autonomous unit at the University of Helsinki, linked to the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The School offers Bachelor level studies in the following major subjects: Journalism, Law, Social Work and Social Policy, Social Psychology and Psychology, Sociology, and Political Science.

The main language of instruction is Swedish, which also means that it is not possible to become a degree student at the Swedish School of Social Science without a thorough knowledge of Swedish.

Soc&kom has ERASMUS bilateral agreements in Social Work, Journalism, Political Science, Social Sciences, and also teacher exchange included in several agreements. Soc&kom also has NORDPLUS-networks in Journalism, Media and Communication, Social Work, Social Psychology, and is part of the open Nordic university network called NORDLYS.

 

Exchange students have to make the application online. The application for the autumn term or the whole academic year has to be done at the latest by 15 May, and application for the spring term at the latest by 1 November. The online form is available well in advance.

It is also possible to apply as a visiting student, if you would like to join Soc&kom, but your university has no agreement with us, using a separate application form.

An international student can choose courses from the Swedish School of Social Science, from the Faculty of Social Sciences, as well as some courses from other parts of the University of Helsinki. Please note that at least one course needs to be taken at Soc&kom.
