Learning Centre

The Learning Centre’s primary task is to serve the teachers, researchers and the students of the Swedish School of Social Science and the rest of the university. The Learning Centre is open to all.

The Learning Centre provides:

• reading-room copies of obligatory course books
• reference books 
• Finno-Swedish newspapers
•  a selection of Scandinavian journals
•  bachelor´s theses
• computer terminals and reading seats

The main fields in the collections are journalism, legal science, social psychology, social policy, social work and political science. The collections of the Learning Centre are included in the library catalogue HELKA, which is the database for all the libraries at the University of Helsinki
Students, staff and other users at the University of Helsinki also have access to vast online resource’s, reference and fulltext databases, e-books, dictionaries and thousands of electronic journals. All online materials can be accessed through the NELLI portal.

Cooperation between the Social Science Library and the Swedish School of Social Science Library

In the summer of 2009 the Learning Centre of the Swedish School of Social Science and the Social Science Library started to co-operate. This means that there are less reading seats at the Social Science Library but in the new Soc & kom there is a reading room on 4th floor, available for all students and costumer at Social Science Library.  

Opening hours:

Monday - Thursday 8.00 am - 8.00 pm

Friday 8.00 am - 6.00 pm

The Learning Centre will be manned between 9.00 am - 11.00 am, 12.00 - 14.00 pm. Changes will be announced in the Learning Centre.
